  • Through the Action Plan of C4, two billboard signs were designed and posted at the highway for public display during the summer months - E1

  • Through the Action Plan of C4, a letter with information regarding bird-crime and its implications on the avifauna of the island was printed and distributed to the residents of the municipalities of Purga (200 recipients), Mosfiloti (350 recipients) via the respective local post offices - E1
  • On 01/06 a lecture regarding the project and the negative implications of bird crime was given at 54 students of the Dromolaxia elementary school (5th grade). The visit was carried out according to the provisions of the Action Plan (C4) of the project (more school lectures will be given to elementary students of the study areas) - E1
  • On 09/06 a lecture regarding the project and bird species recognition was given at 64 students of Oroklini elementary school (5th  & 6th grade). The visit was carried out according to the provisions of the Action Plan (C4) of the project (more school lectures will be given to elementary students of the study areas) - E1
  • On 09/06 both the 5th and 6th grades (64 children) of Oroklini elementary school were divided in groups and the children participated in a bird watching competition at Oroklini Lake, using the kiosk created by LIFE-OROKLINI project. The winning team was given books on birds and nature - E1
  • On 09/06, the 2nd firefighting training event of the project was carried out at the Forest Station of Kornos (Stavrovouni area). In total, 38 participants attended - E1
  • The first audit report of the project regarding the time period from the begining and up to 04/2017 was delivered successfully - F1

May 2017:

  • Removal of Acacia saligna individuals was completed at Koshi. The area that will be cleared out from the invasive species will be used for the restoration of 5220* and 9320 habitat types, this autumn - C3
  • GFS has been conducting regular patrols at all 3 areas to prevent and suppress bird crime and poaching-related activities, including illegal training of hunting dogs. On the 10th of May, a person was taken at the Police Station and prosecuted for transporting a shotgun and ammunition during closed hunting season at Koshi SPA - C4
  • On the 3rd of May the 6th & final school visit of the project took place at Oroklini elementary school (57 students of the 5th grade), where a presentation was given regarding the avifauna of the 3 sites and bird-crime - E1
  • On the same day the 5th grade of Oroklini elementary school was divided in 4 groups and the children participated in a bird watching competition at Oroklini Lake, using the kiosk created by LIFE-OROKLINI project. The winning team was given books on birds and nature - E1
  • On the 29th of May, the second stakeholder workshop was organized at Kavo Greco Education & Environmental Centre. In addition, the Natura 2000 Day was fused together so that the event included in total: 3 presentations (on SPA part of NATURA 2000 network, on bird trapping, and on the LIFE-FORBIRDS project), a field trip to the TAF, and a tour guide to the brand new Environmental & Education Centre of Kavo Gkreko. In total 44 participants attended including government officials, NGOs and local Municipality officials - E1
  • A networking meeting to the project LIFE 11 NAT/GR/001011 («Conservation and management of the Lesser Kestrel (Falco naumanni) in three SPAs of Greece») took place in mid-May (16-19/5/2017). The members of the project exchanged ideas on how to proceed with the After-LIFE activities, especially regarding monitoring the nest boxes and the contracts with the land owners of Koshι - F3

April 2017:

  • Removal of Acacia saligna individuals is conducted at Koshi since the beginning of the month at two selected locations, and will continue during the first week of May. The area that will be cleared out from the invasive species will be used for the restoration of 5220* and 9320 habitat types on this autumn - C3
  • Watering took place at the reforestations of Kavo Gkreko (restoration of habitat types 5210 & 9320)  - C3
  • GFS has been conducting regular patrols at all 3 areas to prevent and suppress bird crime and poaching-related activities, including illegal training of hunting dogs. On the 9th of April a person was given an on the spot fine for illegal training in the Kavo Gkreko SPA - C4
  • Through the Action Plan of C4, a letter with information regarding bird-crime and its implications on the avifauna of the island was printed and distributed to the residents of the municipalities of Delikipos (30 recipients), Sia (250 recipients) and Kornos (230 recipients) via the respective local post offices - E1
  • On April 6, the 4th grade (55 children) of an elementary school from Ag. Napa visited the project infrastructures at Kavo Gkreko. The children were divided at two groups and both visited the TAF and the restoration of the 5210 habitat type - E1
  • On April 4, the Scientific Committee of the project had its 4th and final meeting. A field trip followed at Koshi and Kavo Gkreko for the inspection of the project’s infrastructures. The respective minutes of the meeting were delivered successfully - F2
  • On April 5, the experts on the control of invasive species and on habitat types visited Kavo Gkreko & Koshi with DF representatives - F2

March 2017:

February 2017:

  • More eucalyptus trees were removed from a selected location at Koshi forest, raising the total number of eucalyptus trees to 118. The branches and foliage were pilled to serve as a refuge for birds, whereas the trunks were cut in several pieces and inhabitants of the nearby villages will pick them up later on - C3
  • An expansion of 2015’s 9320 reforestation took place at Koshi by opening 175 planting pits at an area of 0,2 ha and planting 100 Olea europaea, 55 Ceratonia siliqua, 20 Pistacia lentiscus - C3
  • A new 5330 reforestation covering 0,5 ha of 375 planting pits and planting 115 Asparagus stipularis, 122 Phagnalon rupestre, 18 Noaea mucronata took place at Koshi - C3.

  • Another 206 running meters of dry stone walls (9 in total) were constructed at the project areas raising the total running meters to (366,3 / 14 dry stone walls) - C2
